Nintendo wins lawsuit over design of Switch and Joy-Cons – Gaming – News

Nintendo has won a lawsuit from Gamevice company over patent infringement. It was the handheld console Switch and the accompanying Joy-Cons, where Gamevice believed that Nintendo had copied the design.

Gamevice filed the case because it believed that with the design of the Switch, Nintendo infringed design patents that the company had on its own gaming tablet. In addition, the Joy-Cons of Nintendo would infringe a game controller that Gamevice has developed for smartphones and tablets.

The case came to the US patent office USPTO and that judged ultimately, via a Termination Decision Document, that Nintendo does not infringe on Gamevice’s patents with its Switch and Joy-Cons. According to the US authorities, Nintendo uses a different way to attach its Joy-Cons to the Switch, and in addition to Gamevice devices, wireless technology is used to connect to the console.

Gamevice had previously tried to impose an import ban on Nintendo, which would prevent the Switch from being sold in the United States. The American authorities did not agree with this either.
