Nintendo Switch Sales Reach 89 Million Units, Here Are The Details

Hitekno.com – Nintendo has disclosed the company’s earnings report for the second quarter of 2021 (April to June). In its financial statements, the company also announced that sale console Nintendo Switch has penetrated the figure of 89.04 million units.

During the period April to June 2021, the company managed to report sales of 4.45 million units. That figure consists of the standard Nintendo Switch of 3.31 million units and the Switch Lite of 1.14 million units.

The additional 4.45 million units put the Switch’s lifetime sales closer to the Wii’s record of 101.63 million units.

There’s a difference of nearly 13 million units, if the Switch is to match the Nintendo Wii’s lifetime sales record. If it’s past the Wii, the Switch will have to surpass the Game Boy (118.69 million) and the Nintendo DS (154.02 million) to become Nintendo’s best-selling console of all time.

The Switch has a chance given that console production is still on the way as they recently released the Nintendo Switch OLED.

Report from The Verge, although the Switch console penetrated 89 million units, sales actually decreased or slowed down.

Switch sales figures of 4.45 million units including a 21.7 percent decrease compared to the previous period. Software sales also fell 10.2 percent to 45.29 million units.

Nintendo’s revenue fell 9.9 percent to 2.94 billion US dollars (Rp 42.2 trillion) and its operating profit was 1.09 billion US dollars (Rp 15.6 trillion), which represents a 17.3 percent decrease year on year.

If later accepted by the market, the Nintendo Switch OLED is expected to make the Switch’s sales figures increase even more in the following quarter. The OLED model has a 7-inch screen. This is larger than the standard version which has a 6.2-inch LCD screen.

In addition to the new screen, this revised model of the handheld game console includes an adjustable stand on the table.

The Nintendo Switch OLED has 64 GB of internal memory, up from the previous model which was only 32 GB.

This portable gaming device from Nintendo is also slightly longer and heavier at 0.32 kilograms. The Nintendo Switch OLED will go on sale starting October 8 for $350.
