Nintendo Switch will be a full 7 years old this year, which means it’s time for us to see the next Japanese console. However, the question remains whether “Switch 2” will support games from previous Nintendo hardware.
Anyone who has been following Nintendo’s activities since the very beginning of the corporation’s existence in the video game industry certainly knows that backward compatibility has always been one of the Japanese’s priorities. The Game Boy Advance supported GB and GBC cards, the Nintendo DS had a slot for GBA games, and the Nintendo 3DS coped perfectly with NDS cards. The same applied to stationary consoles. Wii U was fully compatible with Wii games and accessories, and Nintendo’s first casual stationary console supported GameCube discs.

Whenever possible, Nintendo took care of backward compatibility, and unfortunately the innovative format of the Switch forced the company to abandon this system. Fortunately, there have been rumors that the successor to Nintendo Switch will be fully backwards compatible with both digital and physical productions from the “snap”. And if that wasn’t enough, the Reseter forum contains statements from developers who can already test this feature and report that Switch 2 in some way improves even the games they play. Unfortunately, the details are not known, but it can be assumed that Nintendo has prepared some automatic system for scaling resolution and adding frames per second.
