During the Gamescom fair last month, Nintendo will present its next game console, currently called Switch 2. It reports Eurogamer.
Behind closed doors, selected developers got a taste of what the console should be able to perform. Here, upgraded hardware is expected compared to the original Nintendo Switch, but exact specifications were not presented.
To show the power of the Switch 2, Nintendo included an upgraded version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, as Eurogamer points out, it was probably only for the sake of presentation, and there is no indication that the Japanese plan to relaunch the game.
Rumors of a new Nintendo console have been swirling for a long time, either in the form of a Switch upgrade or an entirely new machine. During Gamescom, it was apparently the latter that was shown. It comes after some studios are said to have been sent developer editions of Switch 2 this summer.
Sources with knowledge of the situation claim that the plan is to release the console in the second half of 2024. The rumor mill further hints that the Switch 2 will also be a hybrid variant, with the option of playing handheld or on TV. Physical game cards will once again be the plan, and Nintendo is reportedly aiming to use an LCD screen instead of OLED to keep the price as low as possible.
