Nintendo of America timidly evokes the Switch Pro

After E3 2021, Doug Bowser was asked about the future of the console. The director of Nintendo of America is cautious about the Switch Pro and prefers to promise additional content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

E3 2021 was full of announcements for Nintendo including the presentation of many upcoming titles, including the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This special Direct E3 was devoted to console games, even if Big N reserved a surprise by announcing a Game & Watch in the colors of Zelda. Announced several weeks ago, the Switch Pro, on the other hand, stood out with its absence and its future remains uncertain. Questioned on this point by The Washington Post, Doug Bowser remained vague on the intentions of his company.

“We’re always on the lookout for new technologies and how they can improve gaming experiences. It’s not about technology for the sake of technology, explains the director of Nintendo of America. He adds : “It’s about how technology can specifically improve the gaming experience. And then, where can that technology be applied? Do you want to apply it on existing hardware or platforms, or do you want to wait for the next platform? And then, what’s the good gaming experience with that? There are a lot of factors to take into account, and this is something that we are constantly studying. ”

This release does not allow to know if a Switch Pro is indeed in the boxes, but it confirms the strategy of the Japanese giant. Unlike Sony with the PlayStation 5 or Microsoft with the Xbox Series X, Nintendo has long abandoned the race for power with its consoles. The firm prefers to focus on the gaming experience and cultivates its difference by not addressing the same audience, as Shuntaro Furukawa explained.

Additional content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons be there soon

Rather than confirming the Switch Pro, Nintendo prefers to evoke its flagship games. Big absent from the Nintendo Direct conference, Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn’t going to sit on the sidelines, however, as Doug Bowser told The Verge: “Although we haven’t talked about it [pendant le Nintendo Direct de l’E3], we do have plans for the future to ensure that the 33 million people who have islands [dans le jeu] have fun new activities to engage in. Expect to hear more soon. ” The phenomenon of containment and the year 2020 is the second best-selling on Switch, just behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
