Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America, wrote a card on November 19 to employees in the company’s North American division expressing his dissatisfaction with the Activision Blizzard situation. The recent accusations of workplace and sexual harassment against the company’s workers this time directly affect the company’s CEO, Bobby Kotick, singled out by his own employees and external agents who demand his immediate resignation; including its shareholders.
“It goes against my values”
The information, put forward by Fanbyte, corresponds to the message that all employees of Nintendo’s internal studios in America have received; which includes teams like Retro Studios and Next Level Games. “Like all of you, I’ve been following the latest developments with Activision Blizzard and ongoing reports of sexual harassment and toxicity in the company,” Bowser begins in his post. “I find these stories scary and disturbing. They go against my values, as well as Nintendo’s beliefs, values and policies, ”he says confidently.
Bowser is committed to emphasizing the importance of working in an open and inclusive environment where everyone is welcome. Values that will ensure their maintenance in Nintendo of America.
He also maintains that various Nintendo reps are already in contact with Activision and that they “have taken action” while evaluating the others. Although no specific details have emerged, the firm seems determined to act as soon as it considers how to act in its relationship with Activision Blizzard. ESA is mentioned, a workers’ organization with which they will seek to strengthen their position against situations of abuse, discrimination and harassment.
“All companies in the industry need to create an environment in which everyone is respected and treated equally, and in which everyone understands the consequences of not doing so,” Bowser said in his statement.
Currently, Nintendo Switch offers many video games from the company chaired by Bobby Kotick; from Diablo and Overwatch to Crash Bandicoot, Spyro or Tony Hawk. A close partner, at least so far.
The map is real; Nintendo confirms the veracity of the message
The veracity of the message was corroborated by the same source a few hours after its publication. A Nintendo spokesperson confirms that the contents of the card are absolutely true and correct. “We can confirm that the contents of Doug Bowser’s internal email to Nintendo of America staff are correct. We have nothing more to share on this subject.
With these statements, the three major console makers have already spoken. On the one hand, Jim Ryan representing Sony Interactive Entertainment; on the other, Phil Spencer on the Xbox voice.
