dr. Mario World will retire from Nintendo this November after more than two years of service.
The mobile match-3 puzzle was released in July 2019 and has been updated with new phases and characters. However in-game purchases have now been turned off and the game will be completely unplayable from November 1.
After that date, Nintendo will say it will remind you of your game and gameplay through Dr. Mario World Memories, the web page that appears after you turn off the game.
As Nintendo’s version of Candy Crush, Dr. Mario World has never had a big impact. Still, it’s surprising to see the game completely cleaned up – it’s not available to play, even offline.
“This is a classic, fun and smart puzzle game that is perfect for mobile,” Oli wrote on us dr. Check out Mario World. “Play – free, why not? But you’d hope it wasn’t always like that.”
Enter the game now and you will find that it is home to more than 45 doctor characters. Some of my favorites: dr. Waluigi, dr. Goomba Tower, Dr. Petey Piranha, dr. Dolphins.
This is not the first Nintendo mobile game to be phased out. Nintendo also shut down Miitomo, its first smartphone app, after two years in 2018.
Nintendo continues to operate Super Mario Run, which requires a one-time payment to unlock the full game, as well as the gacha-powered Fire Emblem Hero, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and Mario Kart Tour.
The next smartphone game – the first in years – will be Untitled Pikmin AR project in partnership with Pokémon Go producer Niantic. ON The public test was held in Singapore earlier this year, but the game has not been released more widely.
