Nintendo Hacker Released Early, But Faces Lifetime of Payments

The whole situation involving Nintendo and the aptly named hacker, Gary Bowser, was one of the biggest stories of 2020. Bowser was part of a hacking group that made tens of millions of dollars by selling emulation devices that could access pirated Nintendo titles , and after trials, the hacker was sentenced to 40 months in prison for his actions, along with agreeing to pay $10 million in restitution.

But Bowser gets out of jail early for good behavior, and while this means he’s no longer behind bars, the hacker has spoken to YouTuber NickMoses05 and stated that the damages he is expected to pay will see him commit 25-30% of his earnings for the rest of his life to the Japanese gaming company.

Considering Bowser states that he has only been able to pay back $175 so far, he is still required to pay $9,999,825 to Nintendo in the future.
