Nintendo: European retailers will no longer sell download codes for first-party games – News

You may have noticed it if you visit stores selling video games, but it is possible to buy cards dedicated to various games, which include a download code. Finally, it was possible to buy this kind of card, since Nintendo has just ended this mode of sale for its games.

The company has indeed decided not to no longer allow European resellers to sell download cards dedicated to first-party games. This decision is effective today, and we know more thanks to Nintendo Life, which received a press release from the firm:

After careful consideration of the European market, which has been evolving in recent years, Nintendo has decided to end the availability at retailers of download codes for its own software from July 1 to 2020. Customers will still be able to buy Nintendo eShop credits, Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions, and additional content such as the Pokémon Sword / Shield Extension Pass, at retailers across Europe. Download codes from other publishers will also be available. We are always exploring new avenues, and will continue to work on new methods to deliver Nintendo eShop content to as many players as possible.

So it will always be possible to buy cards for DLC, eShop credits and third party games, but it will only no longer possible to find cards for full Nintendo games tels The Legend of Zelda : Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe ou Animal Crossing : New Horizons.
