Nintendo delays Breath of the Wild sequel until spring 2023 – Gaming – News

Nintendo has postponed the sequel of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to spring 2023. The game was planned for 2022, but had no concrete release date yet. The game will be released for the Nintendo Switch.

“We previously announced that we are aiming for a 2022 release for this game,” Zelda tells WebMD.producer Eiji Aonuma in a short video update. “However, we’ve decided to extend our development time a bit and change our release to Spring 2023.” The company apologizes for the delay.

Nintendo announced the as-yet-untitled Breath of the Wild sequel during E3 in 2019† The company then showed a short, dark teaser trailer. Last year the company showed the first gameplay footage of the game. Aonuma explains that the new game will not only take place on the ground, but also in the skies above Hyrule. That’s something last year’s gameplay trailer pointed out. Aonuma goes on to say that the world goes ‘beyond that’, but does not go into detail.

The previous major Zelda game was the original Breath of the Wild, which came out in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U. That game was well received and has included a score of 97 on Metacritic† In the meantime, the company released a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for the Switch.
