Shuntaro Furukawa, the CEO of Nintendo, has announced that there is a high probability of a shortage of Nintendo Switch consoles in 2022. Furukawa states that the global chip shortage and supply chain difficulties will have an impact on their stocks in early 2022.
Nintendo previously announced that it has lowered its forecast for Switch console sales in 2022.

“For Nintendo Switch hardware, we have our forecast at 1.50 million units reduced to 24.00 million units. Our shipment forecast for the second half has been lowered due to the change in our production plan due to the effects of the global semiconductor shortage.”

Despite the reduced projection for the consoles, increased Nintendo expected software sales by 10 million. The company expects 200 million software units to be sold in 2022.
How long this shortfall will last and how it will affect Switch production in the long run is still unknown. While there are only rumors of a possible Nintendo Switch Pro as of now, the shortage of parts could slow down such a console.
Nintendo Switch is the second best-selling console
Since the release of the console in 2017, the Switch a huge success. The Switch is currently the second best selling console ever. The console has already sold over 92 million copies and is still a highly sought after console even years after its release.
