Nintendo wants to acquire game developer Next Level Games, the Japanese company makes on its website (pdf) known. The Canadian studio is best known for the latter two Luigi’s Mansiongames starring the brother of Nintendo’s popular character Mario.
Next Level Games was founded in 2002 and has worked closely with Nintendo for most of its existence. In 2014, the company announced that it would only develop games for Nintendo consoles.
The company’s latest game is Luigi’s Mansion 3, which was released in 2019. Next Level Games also made the predecessor to the Luigi game, in which the character, armed with a vacuum cleaner to suck up ghosts, tries to save his brother.
Nintendo buys Next Level Games in the expectation that games can be made faster and with a higher quality. The acquisition is due to be completed in March.
