Nintendo asks Valve to take down DMCA for Dolphin emulator on Steam

Nintendo has asked Valve to take down the DMCA for the Dolphin emulator on Steam, British game media Eurogamer reported on the 27th (local time).

Dolphin Emulator is an emulator for the GameCube and Wii that Nintendo released in the past.

The DMCA is an online digital content copyright law enacted in 1998. According to the bill, if copyright holders are notified of copyright infringement content, they must immediately delete the content or suspend the service.

It is known that Nintendo demanded that the Dolphin emulator be removed from Steam because the Dolphin emulator integrates an encryption key without Nintendo’s approval and runs in a way that decrypts the ROM in real time or just before execution, which infringes on Nintendo’s intellectual property rights.

In response, Valve removed the Dolphin Emulator sales page from Steam.

In response, the Dolphin emulator development team said on their website, “Valve has requested that Nintendo suspend the service by citing DMCA for the Dolphin emulator’s Steam page. We are currently looking for a solution and will give a more in-depth answer later.”
