Two Russians made the difference for Rangers. Artemi Panarin scored on the power play after 4:46 minutes of overtime to win. Goalie Igor Shesterkin made 42 saves.
Sidney Crosby returned to the NHL from injury at Pittsburgh. He was involved in a goal.
With the Calgary Flames, the home team also prevailed in the second Belle on Sunday. It took the Canadians just over 15 minutes of overtime to score the 3-2 winner against the Dallas Stars. Dallas had been able to rely on goalie Jake Oettinger for a long time, who saved 60 shots.
