Anyone who doesn’t know any better and stumbles across this post on YouTube unprepared will be shocked. In a still-accessible video from May 12, the singer is declared dead. “Nino de Angelo († 60) is dead!” Is the title of the clip, which has been clicked more than 17,000 times so far.

There is also talk of a funeral in Karlsruhe – the city in Baden-Württemberg where Nino de Angelo was born in December 1963 as Domenico Gerhard Gorgoglione. In the video, a monotonous woman’s voice in broken German describes the stations in the life of the “Beyond Eden” interpreter.

The text passages are mostly taken verbatim from the Wikipedia entry about the musician of Italian descent, who is actually only 59 years old, and alternating photos of de Angelo are shown.

The only thing is: Nino de Angelo is not dead, the message that is suggested in the video is a fake – a hoax of the worst kind. The singer has now spoken out via Instagram and writes on his account for a screenshot of the clip: “Damn, what kind of world do we live in now?”

He gives worried fans the all-clear, at the same time the singer seems to take it with humor. He also writes: “The resurrection will then be broadcast live on Saturday at Florian Silbereisen.” A small reference to his appearance on the ARD show “Schlagerbooom Open Air”, which Silbereisen will present live from Kitzbühel on July 1st.

A channel that publishes more videos about alleged deaths

But who is behind the fake news on YouTube? The name of the channel is “News 555”, it has 11,500 subscribers and its symbol is a clapperboard in black, red and gold. The self-description reads: “If you are a fan of 60’s 70’s 80’s dramas and always want to be up to date on the lives of famous actors then follow me I will update the latest news about famous actors from Hollywood. ”

There are many other videos on alleged deaths on the channel. The headlines are always similarly lurid. A video entitled “German television mourns the loss of Daniel Hartwich” was only uploaded on Friday. And two weeks ago, Dutch pop star Eloy de Jong was pronounced dead.

In the case of Nino de Angelo, the hoax is also tasteless because the singer has been seriously ill several times. In 2009 he had his spleen removed because of the immunodeficiency disease ITP and he had to undergo chemotherapy.

In March 2016, de Angelo underwent emergency heart surgery and underwent two bypasses. He was diagnosed with COPD in June 2016. Three years ago he said in an interview that he had “maybe five years left – otherwise I would probably be a medical miracle.”

His fans are all the more shocked by the false death notice. On Instagram they write: “Was really shocked for a moment. What’s wrong with humanity to post such nonsense” and “that’s really impossible, what kind of sick people are these? I’m glad you’re doing well and we’re seeing you.”
