The Finnish team captain had not expected the chaos that would hit the team when he was recruited. The team has been forced to play with both substitutes and substitutes since he took over.
Something that has been frustrating.
– It has it. When I joined NIP, I had a lot of motivation, and the players also had motivation to try something new with an international team. We had a young player and everything. But a few months in we had a winter break and then we played for a month in total and then Hampus took a break. I totally respect that, but it was a weird time because it came out of nowhere.
“Difficult to handle”
The whole thing also took a toll on the team’s self-confidence, he says. At the same time, he himself, as team captain, has had to endure a lot of criticism from Ninjas in Pajamas fans after the setbacks.
– It is difficult to manage, because in the end the only thing that makes it disappear is good results. When you don’t have good results, even though you feel like you’ve made a lot of progress and know your potential – but have to show it and you don’t – then you lose weird games and get shut out by much better teams. It is very difficult to climb out of those situations.
Do you think all five players are on the same page in terms of tactics and that side of it?
– It feels like we made a huge 180-turn on that part a few months ago. Back then we weren’t on the same page and there were a lot of quick fixes because K0nfig came in when we were already playing tournaments. So we couldn’t go into the depth of what we wanted to do. Now I feel we are there.
On Monday, the first indication of whether the preparations have yielded results will come.
At 16.00, NIP faces Mouz in the premiere meeting in Paris.
