“Approximately the entire population is saving on electricity right now,” says senior advisor Nora Clausen in Opinion.
There are also gender differences and women save more on electricity than men.
Three out of ten Norwegians say they often freeze due to energy savings. Oslo tops the national statistics, with four out of ten saying so.
The committee must examine the prices
It is concern about electricity prices that causes more Norwegians to save on electricity.
In February, the government will set up a committee to examine what the state can do to reduce electricity prices. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (AP) earlier said the government’s clear goal is to reduce electricity prices. But he wants to avoid solutions that could cause problems in the future.
– We are open to consider all solutions that can stabilize and lower prices. But we will never advocate short-term solutions, which could get us into trouble in the future or which could threaten security of supply, he said on Monday.
Most believe they can save more
Although the number of Norwegians who save electricity is high, many say in the survey that they can save more electricity than they already do.
52% agree they can save more electricity, compared to 46% who disagree.
– Although Norwegians worry about electricity prices and try to save electricity, it’s still clear that many believe they can save even more, says Clausen.
It is the under 40s who most believe they can save the most. Here, two out of three say they can save more.
