ANNOUNCEMENTS•
The court in The Hague has sentenced a 23-year-old man to prison for inciting against the government and parliament and threatening Prime Minister Rutte. He was sentenced to nine months of unconditional confinement. This is equal to the length of pre-trial detention, so that he does not have to go back to prison. In addition, the man received a 12-month suspended prison sentence.
The penalty is less than the prosecutor’s requirement. According to the court, the man has diminished responsibilities. He would have psychological problems and be susceptible to outside influence. The man must be accompanied by the probation service and be treated for his psychological problems.
Since, according to the court, these are very serious crimes, a probationary period of three years applies to the suspended part of the sentence.
