Nine injured as tree topples onto school bus in Staten Island

NY. This Friday, around 2.30 pm, a freak accident happened near Bloomingdale Road and Ramona Avenue, when a tree branch fell on a school bus. As a result, 9 people were injured.

The New York Police Department informed News 41 that among the 9 injured there are 7 children with special challenges, between 5 and 6 years of age.

The accident happened when a tree branch fell on the 620 bus, from the independent company Island Charter, an independent company that is contracted by schools to transport students in groups of 20 students maximum.

The injured were taken to the hospital

NYPD reports that after the tree branch hit the bus, the driver lost control and went off course.

Paramedics came to the scene to help the 9 injured, who were transported to Staten Island University Hospital.

Alejandro Condis from Noticias 41 spoke with the fire department and they told him that none of the injured is seriously.

Immediately after the accident, local authorities sent several cleaning trucks to prune the branches of the trees that have grown in that sector.
