Nine corona deaths in the AWO nursing home in Denzlingen – Denzlingen

Tragic news from the nursing home of the AWO district association Freiburg in Denzlingen: New residents have died of their Covid 19 disease.

Current corona cases are reported both from the AWO nursing home in Denzlingen and from the Oskar-Saier-Haus Kirchzarten senior center. Nine people died of Covid 19 disease in Denzlingen.

As was confirmed on Monday by the Freiburg workers’ welfare organization, which runs the Denzling nursing home, at the request of the Badische Zeitung, 34 residents and 18 employees in the facility tested positive for the corona virus. A total of nine residents did not survive their illness, five residents are currently being treated in hospital. AWO managing director Ilja Wöllert is dismayed by the infection in Denzlingen and has expressed his condolences to the relatives of the deceased residents. “We very much hope that the sick residents and employees will get well again quickly.”

The board of directors and home supervisors immediately tightened the hygiene regulations for the house in Denzlingen in close cooperation with the health department. In addition to a strict visitor ban, room quarantine was ordered. The further development will be assessed daily between the home management, care service management, home supervision and the health department in the district of Emmendingen. The goal is to create more opportunities for encounters “as soon as possible”. So far, the nursing home has gotten through the pandemic without corona cases, says Sarah Sonner, the assistant to the management of the AWO district association Freiburg. Facility manager Raphael Kirchherr is at a loss. He could not explain the current development in view of the hygiene concepts that have been in force since March. The AWO managers would like to thank the nursing staff and the entire team, who would do everything in their power to take care of those in need of care and to strengthen their well-being.

Last Wednesday, the residents of the Oskar-Saier-Haus senior center in Kirchzarten were informed that a Covid-19 incident had occurred in living area 4. According to the Caritasverband Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, responsible for the facility, if an employee is sick, no further information has been given. Just this much: the sick person wore the prescribed protective clothing while on duty. The illness in Kirchzarten also resulted in close coordination with the health department in Freiburg on how to proceed. Living areas 3 and 4 have been closed. Corona tests are carried out in consultation with the health department and the support of the family doctors, the entire facility is closed to visitors until further notice.
