Tax Director Nina Schanke Funnemark is in the middle of the firing line around the tax brawl of Norwegian politicians and the Storting. It started this autumn when former KrF leader Kjell Ingolf Ropstad was taken with his trousers down, after he had had free housing in Oslo for 10 years, because he stated that he still lived in the boys’ room at mum and dad’s home.
Since then, a number of Norwegian politicians from most parties have been taken with their trousers down.
Recently, the Tax Administration was able to tell that they should check more closely what has happened in the Storting. They will carry out a so-called employer control of the Storting, where the key is equal treatment.
– If you rent a room from a friend. Is it taxable?
Timely questions will then be: Is the Norwegian tax system fair? Is there a long way between life and learning in Norwegian tax policy? Stavrum & Eikeland drove the tax director hard and went straight to the point and asked basic tax questions:
- I want the employer to pay a private driver who will drive me to and from my home a couple of hundred times a year. Is it tax free?
- If the employer says that you should get a free home from them, is it tax-free?
- If you rent a room from a friend. Is it taxable?
Below you can see the tax director answering all these basic questions:
“Sisteliten” tax tips

Below you can see her very honest answer:
