NÎMES Young architects imagine the Pissevin of the future

As part of the restitution of a second semester work, students from the Montpellier School of Architecture proposed projects for around thirty housing units in the Pissevin district.

They were about twenty students to participate and the projects were presented in the form of sketches, boards and models. This is not an architectural competition. Some went on the height and others spread out. ” This is a project close to my heart because I have family who live in Pissevin. The difficulty was to mix social housing and the creation of habitat. I wanted to break the codes of the big dilapidated towers. I showed the project to my uncle who liked it. He liked it because it’s a revival ” explains Adam Azzous, originally from Vestric and Candiac, who took part in this work.

A new urban form in metropolitan France

The project was titled “New urban form in the metropolis” and the students were asked to imagine thirty intermediate accommodations, between individuals and collectives, starting from a T3 located between a sports platform which was to disappear before being replaced by a school group and the intermediate accommodations. “They participated in a presentation seminar, a site visit, work on typologies and urban composition taking into account the regulations in force » emphasizes Laurent Duport (architect in Nîmes and lecturer at the school of journalism in Montpellier) who supervised the students.

Olivier Bonné, the Councilor delegated to follow up the urban renewal of the City of Nîmes, was present at this restitution and he did not hide his enthusiasm: “It’s great that the Montpellier School of Architecture come to a site as busy as the NPNU Nîmes and Pissevin. The work of these students is remarkable. I suggested that we launch a competition that is followed by the facts but that poses a problem because we have to find a promoter who follows that.»
