Following statements by Prime Minister Jean Castex, announcing last week the closure of gymnasiums, teachers of physical education and sports (EPS) demonstrated this afternoon in front of the direction of the departmental services of National Education (DSDEN).

During his televised speech on January 14, Jean Castex, the Prime Minister decided to suspend “Until further notice, indoor and extra-curricular physical and sports activities “. The Head of Government justified this choice to avoid contamination that would lead to the closure of schools. The lessons must be given outdoors and if the climatic conditions do not allow it, they are replaced by theory (analysis, videos …)

“This closure is unfounded”

This afternoon, at the call of the SNEP-FSU (National Syndicate of Physical Education – Unitary Union Federation), ten physical education teachers met in front of the DSDEN premises, rue Rouget-de -Read it.

The “gym teachers” protested against the government decision. ” This closure is unfounded, nothing has proven that students are more contaminated in EPS. We have the impression of being instrumentalised for a communication operation. It is irresponsible because the confinement has shown that the practice of sport is very important for the students ”, regretted Lise Ghezal-Chopinet, departmental secretary of SNEP-FSU and teacher at the Lycée Alphonse-Daudet d’Alès. A delegation was received in the afternoon and the demands will be transmitted to Sophie Béjean, the rector of the academic region of Occitanie, and to Didier Lauga, the prefect of Gard.
