Two variations around Molière to discover this week, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the author’s birth. The Nîmes theater proposes “La Saga Molière” on tour in the city districts and in the villages around Nîmes. The Christian-Liger theater presents “Précieux (ses)”, a contemporary variation around “Precious Ridicules”.
Since the beginning of the year it has been everywhere, always with the same spiciness, the same freshness, the same liveliness. The French theatrical world celebrates the 400th anniversary of Molière’s birth. This week, two cinemas from Nîmes participate in the celebration.
This week the Nîmes theater will embark on a tour in the style of the easel theater that the author and his company from the L’Illustre theater loved. With “The saga of Molière”the Compagnie des Estivants delves into the life and work of the playwright to discover his works and the man behind the verses. “It is the legend, the search for a persistent ideal, which attracts and inspires me”explains director Johana Giacardi, who sees Molière as an elder. Far from any academicism, with the energy and joy of telling stories, she recalls the years of wanderings in the provinces, the triumphs of Versailles, the Parisian successes and the slanders, in a theater alive in the present.
To meet the public, the show will be performed seven times, in seven different venues. First place in the popular districts of Nîmes with shows this Tuesday 11 October at 20 at the sociocultural center Simone-Veil in Valdegour, this Wednesday from 12 to 20 at the Jean-Paulhan social center in Mas-de-Mingue then this Thursday from 13:00 to 20:00 at the André-Malraux social center in Chemin-Bas-d’Avignon. The actors then visit the villages around Nîmes with evenings at the Bernard-Fabre cultural space in Rodilhan on Friday 2 at 8pm, at the Numa-Gleizes party hall in Redessan on Saturday 3 at 8pm, then at the Pavillon de la culture de Saint-Gilles on Friday 21 at 8 pm and at the foyer municipal de Clarensac on Saturday 10 pm at 8 pm
This week Molière is also on display at the Christian-Liger theater with a captivating and daring design. With “Precious” On Saturday 15 October, at 8 pm at the Christian-Liger theater, Stephan Pastor and Cathy Ruiz take control of the “Precious ridiculousness” for a Molière in version 2.0. The Le Grand Bureau des Merveilles program offers petty bourgeois girls the opportunity to live for a while in Paris to meet men of their golden youth in the hope of ending a good marriage. After a first interview, Messrs. La Grange and Du Croisy, rejected by two participants, get the second joker. So they come up with a scheme where the girls will be trapped. Two actors, ten characters, cell phones, a television screen and the frenzy of the game for a modern and corrosive adaptation of Molière’s farce.
