But Lindholm wasn’t done impressing in his debut. Canucks coach Rick Tocchet took time to show appreciation for the Swede’s defensive efforts late as the team defended its lead.
– It was clear there at the end of the game, he had a well-timed covered shot there and he knew exactly when to be aggressive and when he couldn’t be, praised Tocchet. When we go through the game film tomorrow, there will be several sequences where he showed good hockey IQ.
– He was really good for us tonight.
After the game, Lindholm took time to reflect on the week that had been – and the feeling of directly defeating one of the league’s better teams this season in the Hurricanes (28-16-5).
– It’s always great to score goals and help the team. I am of course happy to be here and to be part of this club. There’s been a lot of new information, a lot of new stuff rattling around in my head, but I just tried to play my game, work hard and keep everything as simple as I could.
– It felt relatively good for myself, I thought we played well as a team and it was even in the match. It was almost playoff feeling out there. They’re a good team and we’re a good team so there were small spaces both ways but we managed to grab the two points and that’s all that matters.
Lindholm and the Canucks now travel on to Boston to take on another of the Eastern Conferences’ top teams in the Bruins (31-10-9). That match takes place on the night of Friday, Swedish time, starting at 01.00 (Viaplay).
