Law proposal for the regulation of private debt will be brought to the Parliament in the coming weeks by SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, as the chairman of the party’s Parliamentary Group, Nikos Pappas, said in a meeting with representatives of productive entities at the 88th TIF, while he noted that he has submitted fully costed proposals for accuracy and a radical reform of the tax system.
In his presentation, Mr. Pappas presented in detail the party’s proposals for the management of private debt and the issue of housing and noted that “unfortunately, millions of euros from the staff profiteering mechanism in energy, in the food chain, in refineries, in banks , in indirect taxes, end up in the pockets of very few”.
Regarding Thessaloniki, he said that SYRIZA-PS wants it to be a capital city of national importance, with an international role, and accused the Mitsotakis government of “unfortunately, turning Thessaloniki into a neoliberal experiment and praising itself for Flyover-type solutions that also signal the gameover of the common logic”.
“In our minds, Thessaloniki has the identity of a capital city of national importance and indeed with an international role. It can be the interconnected pole of development extroversion of the country”, said Mr. Pappas and noted that the SYRIZA government launched projects for the city, which, however, are delayed from 2019 onwards.
“During the government of SYRIZA we proved that projects were launched and an agenda for the total modernization of the infrastructure of Thessaloniki, which agenda directed significant resources to the city and the wider region”, he emphasized and continued: “Unfortunately, these projects are delayed by the 2019. Unfortunately, from 2019 onwards, the country is experiencing an unprecedented uneven distribution of resources, resources that did not exist in previous years and could really transform Thessaloniki and Northern Greece as a whole.
There are projects that “froze”. Nothing has been done in relation to the connection of the port with the rail line.
There are very significant delays in the reconstruction of TIF. Nothing has happened to convert Gon’s camp into a Logistics center. They are projects on which the city can fulfill the modern role it deserves.
Unfortunately, from 2019 onwards we see a methodical hyperconcentration of both economic activity and available resources to a few market players.
The Mitsotakis government, unfortunately, turns Thessaloniki into a neoliberal experiment and admires itself for Flyover-type solutions that also signal the gameover of common sense. Thessaloniki speaks, it has a position, but, unfortunately, the government turns a deaf ear. Unemployment in Thessaloniki is galloping and the government is watching as a spectator.
He also said that “a strategic plan for the development of Thessaloniki and the region should come and meet a corresponding foreign policy. A foreign policy that would ensure that the country would retain, would claim for itself the role of a bridge between East and West”.
The meeting was attended by representatives of 20 productive, union and other bodies, who informed him about the situation prevailing in the market and the requests of their branches.
