“My strength is the passion for change, PASOK is back.” This is the message sent by Nikos Androulakis, current president of PASOK-KINAL who is running for re-election to the leadership, from Athens at his central pre-election meeting. On Friday evening, two days before the first round of internal party elections for the PASOK presidency, Nikos Androulakis called on members and friends of PASOK to take the fate of the democratic faction into their own hands. “I have not failed you, I will not fail you. On Sunday we will be victorious. For a fair society,” he said addressing the crowd, calling on them to support him with their vote.
“PASOK will be the winner of the next elections”, he emphasized, referring to the national ballot box. The atmosphere was warm at his central pre-election gathering in Athens and in fact when the song “Vella Ciao” was heard he got off the platform, climbed the steps in front of the Old Parliament, on Stadiou Street, and mingled with young people who were singing rhythmically.
Earlier during his television interview (OREN TV), the President of PASOK-KINAL, Nikos Androulakis, attempted to dispel complaints about the stagnation of PASOK, stressing that when he took over the leadership, ND was at 41%, SYRIZA at 32% and PASOK at 8%, while today, two and a half years later, it fought five electoral battles recording a steady upward trend. He noted that once everyone viewed PASOk as a convenient partner of either New Democracy or SYRIZA. “I flipped it,” he said.
To add: “PASOK is back. I personally had a policy: unity-political autonomy from interests-renewal. This strategy has brought these results and I will continue it with improvements.” At the same time, Nikos Androulakis underlined:
“I clashed head-on with Maximus’ parastate and the parliamentary initiatives on the crime of Tempe were mine. I hear: who can beat Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Mr. Tsipras? Mr. Kasselakis? Mr. Velopoulos, his crutch in the ADAE case? My initiatives have twice uprooted half of the Maximus Palace.”
