Nikon officially released the Z8 tonight, a new full-frame mirrorless camera that condenses the essence of the Z9 into a lighter body. Compared with the Z9, the change that can be seen at a glance on the appearance of the Z8 is the removal of the vertical handle. This allows it to reduce the size by about 30% while maintaining most of the core hardware, and the weight including cards and electricity has also been reduced to 910g. The new machine is equipped with the same 45.7MP back-illuminated sensor as the Z9, and it also has the EXPEED 7 image processing engine. Its autofocus system supports object detection, 3D tracking, and custom wide-area autofocus. In addition to people, animals, and vehicles, an airplane mode is now added to meet different shooting needs.
Like the Z9, the Z8 also has 20fps RAW continuous shooting capability. Because there is no mechanical shutter, users don’t have to worry about shutter wear when shooting. There is a circular viewfinder on the top of the fuselage, and a 3.2-inch 2.1 million-dot four-axis foldable screen on the back. The device can record about 125 minutes of 4K 60fps video and up to 90 minutes of 8K 30fps video. It can also shoot 4K 60fps in ProRes RAW or 8K 60fps in N-RAW. In addition, the body of the Z8 also has a five-axis anti-shake function.
Z8 uses SD plus CFexperes dual card slots, which is different from Z9. In addition, it also has dual USB-C ports, one of which supports USB-PD fast charging, Bluetooth and dual-band Wi-Fi are not absent. Under the premise of using the LCD screen, the battery life of the device is 340 shots. Users with advanced needs can also purchase the newly released MB-N12 battery pack, which can extend the use time by about 1.8 times and enhance the pen-hold shooting experience.
The Nikon Z8 will go on sale on May 25th, with a net body price of US$4,000. The MB-N12 is priced at US$350 and will also be available in May.
