On the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is celebrated annually on January 27, the city of Nikolaev honored the memory of six million innocent Jews who died during the Second World War.

The memorial sign to the victims of the Holocaust was attended by Deputy Head of the Nikolaev Regional Jewish Community Yuriy Granaturov, Head of the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions of the Nikolaev Regional Jewish Community Elena Buberenko, Deputy Nikolaev City Mayor Anatoly Petrov, Chairman of the public organization “Nikolaev Regional Jewish Community” Mikhail Goldenberg and representatives of the public.
«The cynical extermination of almost one-third of the Jewish people, as well as countless representatives of other nationalities in 1933-1945, led to a world tragedy that time will not heal. On this day, a day of mourning and remembrance, we join the universal misfortune, whose name is the Holocaust“, noted Yuri Granaturov.
The chief rabbi of the city of Nikolaev and the Nikolaev region, Shalom Gottlieb, read a memorial prayer for the victims of the Holocaust.
Participants in the event lit memorial candles, honored the memory of the victims with a minute of silence and laid flowers.
