One of the greats of Freiburg ice hockey is celebrating its anniversary: ​​When the EHC Freiburg competes against EV Landshut on Friday (February 26th, 2021) at home, then it’s not just any DEL-2 game – especially because of the pandemic without spectators. Before the first bully falls in the Echte Helden Arena at 7.30 p.m., attacker and home-grown wolves Niko Linsenmaier will be given a special honor. The 28-year-old is playing his 500th professional game in the jersey with the wolf’s head.

“Thanks Niko – and look forward to the next 500 games at EHC Freiburg!” With this sentence the club announces what fans would write on posters if they made a pilgrimage to the Freiburg ice rink. Because one of the heroes, the new EHC generation, celebrates his 500th competitive game in the Wolves jersey: striker Niko Linsenmaier.

Professional debut at 17, promotion hero in the league finals

Linsenmaier, who was born in Freiburg, stood on the ice for the first time at the age of two and has since learned to play ice hockey in his hometown. At the age of 17 he made his professional debut in the 2009/2010 season. With him, he was promoted to the DEL 2 in 2015 – Linsenmaier scored the winning goal in the decisive fifth final game against the Füchse Duisburg. And in the first three second division seasons, the original Freiburg top scorer was his team.

Except for seven promotional license assignments for the cooperation partner Schwenninger Wild Wings in the DEL and a short summer interlude with the Krefeld Penguins, the man with the fine stick technique only wore the jersey of his home club – meanwhile 500 times. After Ravil Khaidarov, Petr Mares, Patrick Vozar, Christian Billich and Tobias Kunz, Nikolas Linsenmaier is the sixth player to have reached the mark of 500 games in the EHC Freiburg jersey.
