Jettingen – 20-year-old Niklas Lang from Jettingen wants to go high. With his passion for mixing music, he has already landed several record deals. Now he would like to finally go on tour with his songs and show himself live to his 80,000 Spotify listeners.
It all started in 2016: It was hot and the air was stuffy. Empty cups lay on the floor and he stumbled over them every now and then. Thousands of people were huddled together. Their eyes were curiously on the stage. Everyone is waiting for the show to finally start. Among them the 15-year-old Niklas Lang. “That was a festival by DJ Hardwell at the Hockenheimring,” says the now 20-year-old. There, among the many partying people, he discovered his great passion: mixing music. A passion for beats, bass and drops. Since that moment, the young Jettinger only dreams of one thing: He wants to become a DJ.
Learned in a Stuttgart DJ school
“A week after the festival, I signed up for a DJ school in Stuttgart,” he says. “There I was able to learn a lot and try out different genres.” After he had acquired the basic skills, he slowly approached his own production. “I taught myself everything myself. Mainly through YouTube videos, ”he recalls. The Jettinger was aware of one thing right from the start: Being a DJ is much more than sliding a few sliders from top to bottom: “You have software, and it’s like a construction kit and that’s where you have your tools,” he says shop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loTE36eQoLc
He started with it in his nursery. “I don’t have a professional studio. I mainly produce in our apartment, ”says Niklas Lang, describing his workplace. Because it doesn’t take much to produce a song. “Actually, you only need a good laptop and headphones,” says the 20-year-old, who has only changed his name as a professional slightly to the thoroughly international “Niklas Long”. And that is also shown by his own songs, with which he can regularly steal record deals. The 20-year-old has been working hard on his career since 2019. “I’ve been producing almost every day since then.” And this hard work pays off. The Jettinger signed his first record deal in spring 2020 after working with a New York singer. “That was really cool,” he remembers with a big grin on his face. “That was the starting shot. A lot has happened since then and it has given me a lot of motivation. “
More and more record companies came
Every new song got better and more and more record companies wanted to work with the 20-year-old. He already has over 80,000 monthly listeners on the audio streaming service Spotify alone. But despite his great and increasing success on the Internet, Niklas Lang is still not really satisfied because Corona has so far not allowed the artist to present his many new songs in front of an audience. But the Jettinger remains optimistic. Mainly because he took a break in Bali about a month ago. “There are hardly any restrictions here, and it has always been my dream to travel a little longer,” he says.
And while the young man is enjoying the beach life on the Indonesian island, he is already making some plans for his DJ career. “My goal is to go on tour first, maybe next year as well.” Anyone who wants to make a living from being a DJ at some point should definitely give concerts, says the 20-year-old.
“You don’t make a lot of money with streaming.” But on tour Niklas Lang really only wants one thing: “I want to spread a good atmosphere.” It’s not difficult to buy that from him, because when he talks about his big dream, sees it you can speak the passion out of his eyes. But his path to the big dream is rocky, the market for young DJs is large. “It’s difficult to develop a unique selling proposition. I haven’t really found that yet, ”he says. That’s why the jettinger works around the clock on new ideas.
“When I have a melody in my head, I grab my smartphone and record it right away.” It is important to him to capture the moment. “I just want to transport the feelings into a song”. If it does get too much for him, he tries to clear his head through exercise or meditation.
The road is rocky
In the end, despite his missing unique selling point, one thing is certain: Niklas Lang gives everything to soon be on the big stages of the world. And if you look at his path so far, it seems as if his dream is within reach. And maybe one day there will be another young man in the audience who will decide to become a DJ.
