Now that Ron DeSantis has withdrawn from the race for the American presidency, there are only two Republican candidates left. Nikki Haley is combative and still wants to defeat former President Donald Trump.
Haley responded Sunday from New Hampshire to the news that DeSantis had dropped out of the race. “There are now one guy and one lady left,” said the former governor and former UN ambassador. “May the best woman win.”
At a campaign rally, Trump responded enthusiastically to the support of former opponents in the Republican primaries. “Vivek joined us,” he said of Vivek Ramaswamy, who recently abandoned his campaign. “And now Ron has just joined us. They’re all joining us.”
Trump was, according to the newspaper The New York Times suddenly praised DeSantis again at the event in Rochester. After his withdrawal, the governor of Florida announced that he would support Trump.
The former president said he greatly appreciated that and would no longer use an insulting nickname for his fellow party member. Trump previously called him ‘Ron DeSanctimonious’.
Trump also received support from his former rival Tim Scott last week. The prominent senator abandoned his attempt to become the Republican presidential candidate last year. According to American media, Trump may appoint him as a running mate: the candidate for vice president.
