Washington (EFE).- The Republican candidate for the White House Nikki Haley warned this Tuesday that she has no intention of withdrawing from her party’s primaries despite the pressure she receives from those around former President Donald Trump (2017-2021).
Trump and Haley are scheduled to meet on Saturday in South Carolina, the state in which Haley was governor but in which polls give her just over 30%, very far from the former president.
So far, Trump dominates the Republican primaries and has added 63 delegates between Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada, compared to Haley’s 17.
“I refuse to give up. South Carolina will vote on Saturday. But on Sunday I will continue running for president. “I’m not going anywhere,” Haley said in a speech broadcast live on the country’s major television channels in which many expected her to announce that she was suspending the campaign.
“People have the right to have their voices heard. And they deserve a real election, not a Soviet-style election where there is only one candidate and he gets 99% of the votes,” he added.
Once the South Carolina primaries are over, the Republican race is heading towards the big event on Super Tuesday on March 5, in which fifteen states are called to the polls, including California and Texas, the largest in the country. .
After Super Tuesday, almost half of the delegates who will have to nominate the presidential candidate at the Republican National Convention in July will have been distributed, so if Trump continues to dominate the contest, he could leave the primaries for sentencing on that date.
