In court
Major breakthroughs have now been made in the case.
On Tuesday, a 54-year-old man appeared in the Supreme Court in Newcastle, where he was formally charged with the murder of the girl.
In court, he only stated his name and date of birth.
He must appear again in court on June 20.
Tracelessly gone
Nikki Allan and her family lived in the same apartment complex as their grandparents.
She just needed to go down a flight of stairs and across a corridor to get home after the visit.
But, when Nikki Allan’s mother came home ten minutes later, the girl was gone without a trace.

The disappearance received enormous attention in the UK, and several hundred people were involved and searched for her.
The day after she disappeared, October 8, Nikki Allan’s shoes were found outside an abandoned factory nearby.
The police entered the building. There they found her killed with 37 stab wounds and beaten with a brick.

– As with all unresolved cases of this type, they are never closed.
Felton says the police have worked hard to solve the case.
– Our dedicated teams are constantly reviewing evidence, and follow any new clues, he says.
