From the beginning of her career in the 1950s, Niki de Saint Phalle defied conventions in a work open to performativity, collaborative projects and feminism. Until next September, the MoMA from New York hosts her first major exhibition in the United States, “Structures for Life”: it consists of two hundred works that underline the interdisciplinary nature of this author’s work and her social commitment: she always wanted to imagine new ways of inhabiting the world.
The artist began in assemblages and performative projects to, from the sixties, expand her production to architecture, sculpture gardens, books, prints, films, theatrical sets, clothing, jewelry and even her own perfume . It sought to break stigmas about AIDS, promote women’s rights and also care for the environment.
The anthology can be visited until September 16.
