The municipality of Nijmegen is going to investigate the discovery of dozens of bones in a construction pit in the city. A walker found bones there last weekend and informed the police.
Dozens of apartments are being built at the site where the bones were found. The building site is located next to Daalseweg Cemetery. The police say against De Gelderlander that the bones probably came from that cemetery.
The municipality decided to halt construction work after the find. “We would like to research the origin of the bones and treat it with respect,” says a spokesman for the municipality. Gelderland broadcaster.
Archaeologist present
Whether the bones did indeed come from the nearby cemetery, the investigation must show. It is not yet known when the municipality will start the investigation.
It has been agreed that the developer will stop digging for the time being. Work may only be resumed when an archaeologist is present. The intention is to bury the bones again after the examination.
