The discovery of a drug lab in Bosschenhoofd turned out to be a nightmare for a family. The mayor immediately decided to close the drug warehouse and their house next door. While specialists emptied the drug lab, the family quickly evacuated their home. “I feel sorry for the children,” says a little boy on the street.
On Thursday evening, a heavily armed arrest team raided the lab on Pastoor van Breugelstraat, on the outskirts of Bosschenhoofd. It was hidden in the back of a business building. There was a large cauldron bubbling with MDMA, the active ingredient in ecstasy pills. The resident (39) of the house next door, the same address, was handcuffed.
Monsters
On this Friday there will be research and dismantling. Police experts empty barrels, take samples, record traces and take photos. Local residents cycle by and pause for a moment. They are all talking about friendly people who have lived there for a long time. A family with two children, probably their father is now in prison.
Gunk
A forklift truck removes entire pallets of stuff from the lab. Barrels, jerry cans, pipes and gas bottles. But also eight large freezer chests with brown gunk on the sides. “For the crystallization of MDMA,” says a police specialist. “They grind those crystals and mix them with other substances and then use them to make ecstasy pills somewhere else.”
During the afternoon, the first truck trailers are filled with items from the lab. The building owner appears with horror on his face and fears the consequences. These quickly become clear when an enforcement van parks. Three walk to the front door of the house. A woman opens the door and looks serious. And a long conversation follows at the door. She’s gone for a while and comes back, busy calling. Visibly upset. Wrong stuff.
Children
School is out in the village. Children want to meet up but end up being cordoned off. “I feel very sorry for them,” says one of them. They are impressed. “A drug lab like that could explode,” says a little boy. A mother comes to pick up her son, she doesn’t like it.
A few cars drive into the yard, still during the dismantling. This causes slight irritation for the dismantling team, because it suddenly becomes very busy. The resident who was previously in conversation with enforcement comes out with a suitcase and puts it in the car. A boy walks behind with school supplies in a large plastic bin. The family appears to be leaving.
Vacuum cleaner
Inquiries with the municipality of Halderberge reveal that the mayor is closing everything immediately. Six months for the warehouse. Three months for the house.
Mayors want to send a strong signal with this. This is the third drug lab within the municipal boundaries in a year. Residents can reverse eviction through a lawsuit.
In the meantime, specialists are removing the two boilers from the lab, one of which holds a thousand liters. Everything disappears in the truck. The resident crosses the path of the forklift truck with another suitcase. A man puts a vacuum cleaner in his trunk. There is also a washing machine. And a large television. A boy comes out of the house with an electric scooter. He zooms away into the village.
A large group of children are watching on the other side. “I feel sorry for the children,” says a little boy on the street. Municipal officials walk with high fences and place them around the warehouse. Forbidden entry.
It is unknown where the family from Bosschenhoofd went.
