Nightly strike by harbor workers Tata Steel

In the port of Tata Steel in IJmuiden, a strike is held. The harbor workers have left the job because there is still no solution to the conflict with the management of Tata Steel.

The strike started at 10 pm and will last until 6 am. The action means that both seagoing and inland vessels will not be loaded and unloaded, NH Nieuws reports.

It is not the first strike action at the steel producer in recent weeks. Staff are concerned about a planned reorganization, with thousands of jobs being cut in Europe. There is also dissatisfaction with the departure of Theo Henrar, the chairman of the board of Tata Steel Nederland.

‘Vague commitments’

The unions have consulted with the management in recent days, but according to FNV director Berghuis, that has not yielded anything. “They only make vague commitments.” He says there will be more strikes at Tata Steel this weekend.

In a response, Tata Steel’s management said this week’s talks with the unions were constructive and that the leadership would address their demands. There is a new meeting on Tuesday, says Tata Steel.
