A fire broke out at the empty Maranathakerk in Assen last night. The fire was discovered around 3:30 p.m.

The fire raged on the outside of the empty church on Nobellaan, probably near a shed next to the building. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but arson has not been ruled out. The fire brigade was able to prevent the fire from spreading to the church building.
