Nightdive Studios unveiled a new gameplay trailer for its remaster of System Shock 2 at the indie horror expo. The Enhanced Edition brings the 1999 classic to the KEX Engine, bringing all the modern conveniences that engine offers.
Nightdive is very actively working on remasters. Star Wars: Dark Forces was recently announced alongside Turok 3, and SiN Reloaded was pushed back a bit to make room. The Enhanced Edition adds higher resolution, widescreen mode, and post-processing effects. The graphics have also been tweaked, but in typical Nightdive fashion, carefully tweaked to improve the look without changing the gameplay. In addition, the game will be released on consoles for the first time.
System Shock 2 was Irrational Games’ first game and the sequel to Looking Glass Studios’ 1994 game System Shock. The game is highly respected and its design influenced its spiritual successor, Bioshock.
Nothing is known yet about the release date of System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition, except for the words “coming soon” and “in the near future.” The game will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
