Under the slogan ‘The night is rising’, nightclubs have protested the closures in the past two years. Nightclubs have been forced to close for almost the entire corona period. Not all nightclubs took part due to the threat of penalties. The night passed without major problems for most of the clubs that did participate.
As far as is known, the first fine that was handed out went to the Tilburg pop stage 013. The club has to pay a penalty of 10,000 euros because the 013 was open after 10 p.m. in violation of the corona rules. The party continued after that. There were still a lot of people standing at the box office for a while who wanted to buy a ticket, but the evening was already sold out.
In Haarlem only Het Patronaat took part in ‘The night is up’, if only for a short while. Director Beyer already said in advance against NH News that the party would still be stopped after a possible warning from enforcement. That happened around 10:45 PM. The Patronaat faced a fine of 50,000 euros if the club did not comply with the boas’ order.
‘elated and euphoric’
Furthermore, in Amsterdam there was a lot of nightlife around Leidseplein. Amsterdam night mayor Ramon de Lima told ANP news agency that the atmosphere in the city was “elated and euphoric”. “You really notice the urge to reconnect.”
Van het Overleg Amsterdamse Clubs (OAC) all but one of the clubs participated, says Pieter de Kroon of the Chicago Social Club. Only one club dropped out due to a corona case among the staff. Part of the tram traffic was diverted because of the crowds in Leidsestraat.
