Night shops close at 2am | Inland

The shops are no longer allowed to sell alcohol from 10 p.m. The new rules will apply to all night shops in the fifteen municipalities of the region from Friday evening.

Mayor Ahmed Marcouch van Arnhem, chairman of the security region, decided this on Friday. He thinks it is time to end alcohol sales at night shops “to discourage spontaneous yet illegal house parties.”

Earlier this week, Utrecht decided that night shops and supermarkets in the center of the city should close at 10 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. In this way, the municipality wants to restrict the sale of alcohol after the mandatory closing time of the catering industry. Last weekend was the first time that the catering industry in the entire country had to close at 10 p.m. Young people in particular then stormed night shops to continue their meeting. For this reason, Utrecht has also declared three parks in the city center to be prohibited areas at night.
