Night one hour shorter: daylight saving time starts again

Daylight saving time will start again tonight. At 2 a.m. the clock advances one hour to 3 a.m.

In the morning it is dark longer, in the evening it stays light longer. On October 31, the clock will return to standard time, also known as winter time.

Changing the clock has been a topic of discussion for years. In 2018, the European Commission made a proposal not to change the clock anymore. The European Parliament also spoke in favor of keeping either only winter time or only summer time.

Minister Ollongren of the Interior wrote to the House of Representatives in February that the European Commission’s proposal to abolish summer time will be shelved. The current president of the EU, Portugal, does not intend to put the proposal on the agenda. The previous chairman, Germany, also left the subject untouched.
