The Saint-Jacques bakery ransacked, a stoned supermarket, the police station attacked: as in many cities in France, Beaune lived through a night of violence this Friday, June 30. The prefect of Côte-d’Or, Franck Robine, immediately went there on the morning of July 1. “I once again condemn unacceptable actions. The Dijon conurbation and Beaune have been the scene of new violence and degradation that nothing can justify.”
A Beaune, two people were arrested overnight, including a minor. In total, nine people were arrested in Côte-d’Or, on the sidelines of this violence. The prefect announces a reinforcement of the CORAT (Reinforced Operational Cooperation in the Agglomerations and Territories) for the whole department. Clearly, this means that the police and gendarmes will work together to deal with potential future violence.

Residents still in shock
During the night, the police fired about fifty grenades. Sounds of clashes that shocked Alain, a resident of the Saint-Jacques district in Beaune, where the violence was concentrated. “Around 10 p.m., the hostilities began with mortar fire and fireworks. They were easily between 20 and 30, all hooded and dressed in black.” Lola, another resident of the neighborhood, still has some tears in the eyes. “The little ones were very scared. It lasted until 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. My son, who is three years old, is in a state of shock. We are scared, it’s tiring. I hide my tears but it I just don’t feel safe anymore.”
