Night of unsuccessful searches for the 2 missing in the Marche – Chronicle

Another night of unsuccessful searches for the two people missing during the wave of bad weather that hit the Senigalliese area, in the province of Ancona on the night of September 15: Mattia, an 8-year-old boy, snatched from his mother’s arms by the wave of water and mud after they got out of their car in the territory of Castelleone di Suasa, and a 56-year-old woman, Brunella Chiù. There are 11 victims ascertained so far, including Pianello di Ostra, Senigallia, Barbara, Trecastelli, Serra de ‘Conti, Rosora. Today the head of civil protection Fabrizio Curcio will carry out inspections in the affected areas, starting from the province of Pesaro (Cantiano, Serra Sant’Abbondio, Frontone, Pergola), and then move on to that of Ancona. In the afternoon Curcio should attend a meeting at the Rescue Coordination Center (CCS) at the Marche Regional Civil Protection.

“It is clear that various interventions are necessary to be able to secure the Misa River, especially within the town of Senigallia and just upstream from it”. This is what we read in the ‘Project structure for the middle and lower valley of the Misa’, a document of the Marche Region of 2016 which clearly supported the need to carry out the works that, however, have not been done. To reduce “as much as possible the peak flow that crosses the center of Senigallia”, he added, it was necessary to intervene by “rolling and increasing the flow capacity” in the city as much as possible.

The necessary works, the document continued, “consist in the first instance in the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the riverbed and in the dredging of the terminal part”, but there is “the need to be able to laminate, along the entire basin with appropriate manned management, about 7.31 million cubic meters to reach a flow rate passing through the center of Senigallia of 240 m3 / sec “.

Mattia’s dad: “I want to believe he’s alive”

“I want to believe that Mattia is alive, maybe he is clinging to a plant”: Tiziano Luconi, the father of the 8-year-old boy, who is still missing from the flood that hit the Marche, tells ANSA. “In three days I slept for three hours, I am destroyed, but I have to find Mattia”, says on the phone the father who in the meantime is participating in the research. “Mattia is my special gnome, we are always together”, says Tiziano who sends a “special thanks to firefighters, police forces and volunteers”. “The strength to go – he concludes – only gives me the hope and the desire to believe with all my heart that Mattia is alive”.
