Night of the Museums Returns to Frankfurt After Three-Year Break

The night of the museums takes place again. After a three-year Corona break, more than 40 museums and exhibition centers in Frankfurt and Offenbach are inviting you.

Frankfurt/Offenbach – In 2022 the night of the museums in Frankfurt and Offenbach almost happened again. The popular event had to be canceled twice before due to the corona pandemic, but the cultural office of the city of Frankfurt, as the organizer, decided again last year not to host it. In 2019, the last night of the museums so far, around 35,000 people interested in culture came – this number of people was still not feasible with the requirements of 2022.

But now, on Saturday, May 13, 2023, nothing stands in the way of the event. The city writes that the return should be “impressive”. From exhibitions to guided tours, workshops and concerts to parties and other specials – the program of the more than 40 participating houses promises “diversity in the spirit of the times”.

As always, on May 13, visitors will have access to all participating venues with just one ticket and use the free shuttle service – from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The popular event thrives on the density and diversity of the program and reflects Frankfurt’s rich museum landscape,” said Frankfurt’s head of culture, Dr. Ina Hartwig. “The committed participation of the museums shows us that despite the sometimes difficult cultural situation, the Night of the Museums has its place in Frankfurt”

Paulskirchenfest in Frankfurt casts its shadow over the museums at night

This year, Frankfurt’s Paulskirche occupies a special place at the After the Museums. “The 175th anniversary of the opening of the National Assembly in the Paulskirche is also present in many places at the Night of the Museums and runs like a red thread through the night,” writes the city.

The Struwwelpeter shows his rebellious roots in the Struwwelpeter Museum, in the Institute for City History it’s “On the Barricades”. In the Volksbühne in the Großer Hirschgraben, the long night of the revolution is staged with panache. And the Paulskirche, the heart of the National Assembly of 1848, is open to all interested parties on May 13th. From Thursday, May 18th to Sunday, May 21st, the “cradle of German democracy” will have its very own event in Frankfurt with the Paulskirchenfest.

Night of the Museums: From archeology to the zoo, everything is there – information on tickets and the program

Finally, on May 13th in Frankfurt and Offenbach, everything that is of any repute will be there: whether art in the Städel or Schirn, dinosaur skeletons in the Senckenberg Museum or living animals in the Frankfurt Zoo, history from film and music with the German Film Museum or the museum of Modern Electronic Music (MOMEM) – the night of the museums has something to offer for every taste. Tickets are available online, in the participating institutions, the information offices, Tourismus+Congress GmbH and at the well-known ticket offices. Admission is free for holders of the Museumsufer Card. The shuttle buses run from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. every 10 minutes, line 5 (brown) to Eschborn every 15 minutes. The historic tram runs approximately every 30 minutes.

The city of Frankfurt does not manage the night of the museums alone with its museums. There is also a lot to see in Offenbach and Eschborn on May 13th. Among other things, the Leather Museum is open in Offenbach and the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation in Eschborn.

Tickets normally cost 15 euros. The reduced price is 10 euros. Admission to all venues begins at 7pm; the closing times vary depending on the museum (generally 12:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.). (Christoph Sahler)
