“Night of the Museums in Frankfurt and Offenbach: A Cultural Extravaganza with German Leather Museum, House of City History and Klingspor Museum”

With music, readings, theatre, workshops, parties and of course lots of art, culture and handicrafts, the Night of the Museums attracts many people year after year to the more than 40 museums and exhibition halls in Frankfurt and Offenbach. With good reason, because the doors are open from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. and the lines in front of the big houses are usually long. This will be the case again on Saturday, May 13th. “The Night of Museums is proof that the region is doing well in many respects. We from Offenbach have no envy for Frankfurt’s radiance when it comes to cultural issues – and we use this specifically for our museums with the joint Museum Night – because they have a lot to offer,” emphasizes Offenbach’s Lord Mayor and Head of Cultural Affairs, Dr. Felix Schwenke and therefore particularly invites you to the city’s museums. These are the German Leather Museum, the House of City History and the Klingspor Museum.

German Leather Museum

During the night of the museums, the German Leather Museum on Frankfurter Strasse is all about gloves. Everything revolves around multi-faceted handwear there until midnight. In short tours, museum director Dr. Inez Florschütz at 8 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. the cultural history of the glove and at 9.30 p.m. the highlights of the collection. From 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., glove designer Evelyn Toomistu will show how she sews her creations by hand. The demonstrations of the improvisation theater Improglycerin at 8.20 p.m., 9.00 p.m. and 9.40 p.m. will be captivating, and the open workshop invites you to get creative with leather. The sparkling wine bar of the support group of the German Leather Museum and small delicacies in the museum café provide refreshment in between with atmospheric music by the DJ duo Lucas 3000 and Miami Miles. City History House

Until after midnight, the House of City History offers an exciting program to match the current exhibition “Nestbau” under the motto “From a doll’s house to your own home”: the guided tour of the museum “Highlights” with Astrid Jäger starts at 7 p.m City history to be explored. At 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. the artist Mathias Weis will read from his book “Vaters Hütte”, in between there will be a guided tour “TraumhAus” with Ben Denke at 9 p.m. At 11 p.m. curator Katja M. Schneider opens the doors to the depot and shows the hidden treasures of the house. The pinball machine from the musical “Tommy” by The Who, which was a guest at the Capitol Theater in the 1990s, is usually also there and can be played in the House of City History. With the stroke of midnight, museum director Dr. Jürgen Eichenauer through the permanent exhibition. Throughout the evening there is the opportunity to make house cards with museum educator Astrid Jäger and/or to listen to the sounds of “Jouno”, they play rock, blues, jazz and pop live every hour from 7.30 p.m. to 11.30 p.m. Info: Time travel through an eventful history

Klingspor Museum

The Klingspor Museum opposite is dedicated to modern, contemporary book and letter art and shows how image and letter design influences everyday life. Artist books, graphic novels, children’s books and posters often deal with social issues, in the current exhibition “Fernweh” travel and migration of people. Exhibition, workshops, a paper campaign by Jürgen O. Olbrich, bookable and shared meals invite you to an evening of exchange and creation. During the night of the museums, there are short guided tours through the Wanderlust exhibition and workshops every hour between 7:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. From 19.30 to 21.30 and from 22.00 to 24.00 you can make notebooks from old Paper Police posters and paper or make and stamp fantastic passports. A special goodie is Paper Police by Jürgen O. Olbrich. These travel documents are given away to visitors (while stocks last).
