According to the Nigerian bishops’ committee, the new economic reforms in Nigeria are pushing many people into extreme poverty.

According to the observation of the Nigerian Episcopal Committee, the new economic reform in Nigeria is leading many people to extreme poverty. With the removal of fuel subsidies and the consolidation of the foreign exchange market, the rise in the price of petroleum products and the devaluation of the currency have led to starvation in Nigeria.
Although the government reiterates that the negative effects of the reforms will be temporary, in the long run, the reforms will have positive effects by attracting foreign investment to the national economy, but the situation is still in which many people fall into the abyss of poverty.
The bishops’ committee also points out security breaches affecting people. The committee underlined that despite the monthly allocation of funds for the security forces, there has been an increase in kidnappings for ransom, massacres and thefts across the country.
