Al-Akhbar (Abuja) – Nigeria has launched an oil exploration operation in the state of “Nasarawa” in the center of the country, as part of its endeavor to increase its production of crude oil to 3 million barrels per day, compared to 1.7 million barrels currently.
Outgoing Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said that the discovery of oil in the state will enhance “the well-being of Nigerians as well as the overall energy security of the country,” noting that neighboring regions “will particularly benefit from the value generated by potential exploration and production activities.”
In a speech via visual communication technology on the occasion of the official opening of the “Ebini-A” oil well, Bukhari called on the country’s National Oil Corporation and its partners to “take into account the environmental repercussions of oil exploration activities, and mitigate the negative effects.”
Bukhari stressed that the official launch of exploration activities in this region “is part of the ongoing campaigns to explore for crude oil and gas in the border basins of the country.”
