An 11-year-old Nigerian ballet dancer has been awarded a scholarship to study at the American Ballet Theater in New York.
A dance school free to Lagos
Anthony Mmesoma Honey takes free dance lessons offered by the Leap of Dance Academy, a dance school located in Lagos, Nigeria.
Daniel Ajala Owoseni, founder of the establishment, told the American press agency AP he “wanted to give every child a chance by making their program free“. He also explained that : “Some of the students have to walk an hour to get to the academy”. And to remedy this situation, he plans to “create comfortable accommodation” so that the students “can live there”.

A video shared more than 20 million times
Anthony Mmesoma Honey is one such student and has now gained worldwide fame thanks to a video of him that his school has uploaded.
In the images, the teenager sketches dance steps in the muddy streets of the Nigerian city. The video has been shared over 20 million times on social media.
“Very, very surprised, very, very happy”
A video that ended up being viewed by the management of a prestigious Dance School New Yorker. The American Ballet Theater in New York decided to award a scholarship to Anthony Mmesoma Honey who told the agency Associated Press be : “very, very surprised, very, very happy “.
